Iloodokilani Nendeni Area History

Iloodokilani Nendeni are is one of the many N/As of PCEA under the mission department. It is falls under a predominantly Maasai community but enjoys diversity of ethnicity having institutions which attract working staff from all over the community. Amongst the many achievements, PCEA Mother Esther Girls School and Rescue Centre remains the LandMark in the area. It Is however not the genesis of the mission area. There are congregations that existed before its establishment. Nevertheless one would not be wrong to say that by Gods grace the institution has made PCEA presence be felt far and wide even beyond Kajiado.

The Mission area is divided in to four zones each manned by an evangelist under the guidance of a resident minister. These evangelist are graduates of the PCEA Lay Training and looking forward to Join university for a comprehensive theological training.

Kajiado county being predominantly occupied by the Maasai people means that our area is not different it’s about 12km from Kajiado town. Most people here are pastoralist and they engage in business from time to time. Pastoralism is not a reliable source of income because of the unpredictability of weather. PCEA has in the recent past tried to educate and provide alternative ways of securing income. This is by drilling boreholes near church buildings an initiative that has brought the society close to the church. In our two institutions we have several greenhouses which serve as a project towards a self supporting and self propagating church JITEGEMEA!

The community is very supportive to the church endeavors to improve their lively hood however the two disagree on the grounds of culture. As mentioned earlier the area is predominantly Maasai one of the world recognized indigenous community. The community respects and honors their culture and traditions. The culture is not entirely bad but some practices like FGM and early marriages are not only retrogressive but oppressing. Historically the PCEA church has been fighting the same since 1912 with Dr Arthur spearheading the advocacy in Kikuyu and Dr Philip in Tumutumu. Our effort to establish schools is to inspire the young generation as we influence them to more progressive culture of education and technology and still not loosing their identity. This is ensured by having bibles and hymns written in the native language.

BACKGROUND

Loodokilani is a Maasi word meaning people in red garments. The area was part of PCEA Kajiado outreach which covered a large area. In the year 2000 Kajiado outreach deacon court ruled to cluster in to zones some of its congregation. These congregations were put under one mission zone called Osotua Zone:

PCEA Esambukike,Enkisukudo,Iltanki, Oloorere, Namelok and KMQ Nasaruni. Osotua zone would later suffer greatly after the 2008 post election violence which resulted to the birth of Presbyterian Outreach Mission Church POMC and many of our members abandoned PCEA for the new denomination. The PCEA church was branded at a tribal church which resulted not only to the loss of members but Land and Property.

The situation remained at standstill until the Presbytery of Ngonghills intervened in 2010

by commissioning the Late Rev Charles MAINA Ndungu to come and re establish work here.

The present day ILOODOKILANI Nendeni areas borders Kajiado Parish to the East Magadi N/A to the West Olooloitikoshi to the north and Namanga Mission area to the South.
